The path to the Emirates Stakes will take a different route this year with the former Mackinnon Stakes now being run as the Emirates Stakes.
The change of the Mackinnon Stakes from the first Saturday of the carnival to the last Saturday completely changes the landscape for this race.
Now a 2000m race under weight-for-age conditions, the Emirates Stakes is now held exactly two weeks after the Group 1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.
Despite being held seven days later than it has been in previous years, it’s still worth checking Emirates Stakes lead up races to see where the winner is most likely to come from.
