- William Hill Card

- Nearly 100 years bookmaking experience
- Combination of Sportingbet, Centrebet, and Tom Waterhouse - huge, well respected company
- Low turn over requirements for bonus bets
- Heaps of betting promotions on specific races/events as well as broad promos

William Hill Racing History and Gambling Licence
Previously known as Sportingbet, William Hill is something of a Frankenstein’s monster. The Sportingbet website was originally owned by the UK-based Sportingbet group, which has existed since 1998. They acquired Centrebet in 2011, and restructured both companies to share odds and market, but offer different promotions.
William Hill acquired Sportingbet’s Australian side – Sportingbet and Centrebet – in 2013, in addition to Tom Waterhouse. All three websites operated with identical markets and odds during this time.
Sportingbet was re-branded as William Hill in 2015.
While the brand may be unfamiliar to Australians, it is decidedly not so to the UK, as it has been operating since 1934 and employs over 17 000 people.
William Hill Racing is licenced in the Northern Territory.
Horse Racing Products
William Hill Racing offers betting on races across Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK, and Ireland, as well as choice events from Hong Kong and France.
They offer Win/Place, Quinella, Exacta, First Four, Multi, and “Super Exotics”. Best Tote, Fixed Odds, and Best Fluc are available on most races. They also offer some shiny extras, such as a Head to Head bet that bets that one of two horses will win, an Odds vs Evens bet that allows you to bet on odd- or even-numbered runners, and a Top Half vs Bottom Half, which allows you to bet on either the top or bottom half of the field. These are nice extras that we haven’t noticed elsewhere.
William Hill Betting Products
Betting Without gives you the option to select an event and get a fixed price ‘without’ a nominated selection. You can get betting without markets on selected horse racing, greyhounds, and harness events.
Race Insurance guarantees 3 placing markets on selected horse racing, greyhounds, and harness events. If your selection runs 2nd or 3rd all fixed win wagers will be refunded on the specific market. If your selection wins, then you get paid as normal.
Best Fluctuation is available on nearly all metropolitan meetings. You can place best fluctuation wagers up to 30 minutes before the race starts (when the betting ring opens). You will receive the best price of the official on course bookmaker fluctuations.
Head to Head William Hill offers head to head markets on selected horse racing, greyhound, and harness races. One runner within the head to head market must finish in first 4 place getters for a head to head bet to be paid out.
All of these offers have their own terms and conditions attached, and we recommend that you study them carefully before committing to a bet.

William Hill Racing Joining Bonus Bet & Promotions
The William Hill Bonus is one of the most generous we’ve seen. William Hill offers a $200 matched First Bet bonus. The William Hill bonus is one of the best we’ve seen, and a real enticement to sign up with them instead of a competitor.
Their full Promotions page is hidden behind an account wall, but the offerings are varied and interesting, and it will be worth the effort to keep an eye on the page for spring racing offers.
We guarantee they are going to go mental over the spring racing carnival and bring out some huge promotions and competitions, so stay tuned!
William Hill Website and Betting Slip
The website is fairly good-looking, done in blue and yellow. It doesn’t have the usual three column format, choosing instead to have a clean, crisp landing page with a series of links on the left that will take you to your selected destination.
The links are in a floating menu that will scroll down the page with you, so you don’t have to scroll all the way back to the top if you want to move to a different section of the site. The website is easy to use and responsive, and the lack of clutter will probably be quite comforting to new users, although the change from the usual layout might confuse veteran punters.
The betting slip is housed in a floating menu just like the links. It’s on the right-hand side of the screen and, unlike the majority of other sites’, does not pop up when you select a bet. Instead, it grows an indicator much like an Amazon Cart, showing how many bets you have selected.
Once you open it, it expands out of the right hand of the screen into a clear, concise, and easily readable betting slip with options to include in a multiple bet, add the same stake to all singles, and various others. All in all, it’s one of the nicer betting slips we’ve seen, and the clarity and elegance of the design should make newcomers happy.
First things first, William Hill racing’s website has a Live Chat feature! In the digital age, not providing an option to communicate in real-time over the Internet with support personnel is an almost inexcusable oversight, so to see that William Hill is one of the few to implement this is very pleasing. The link to the Live Chat is at the top of each page. We spoke briefly to one of their representatives, who seemed well-informed and friendly, which is good enough for us.
There is a link to the Help section at the top of each page. This link will take you to a very informative Help section, with a series of contact options on the right hand side, including telephone numbers, e-mail, and yet another link to the Live Chat help option. The rest of the section is made up of articles relating to bet types, deposit options, how-to videos, a guide to ID requirements, and the Terms of Service.
Right at the top of the page, once again, is a link to the FAQ section, where you will find a host of answered questions. While perhaps not every possible question was covered, William Hill certainly gave it the old-school try – they can’t have missed very many questions.
All in all, William Hill is a respectable company with an excellent name behind it, and a really great site. Although it has some issues – rumour has it that they occasionally suspend unusually successful betters, and their promotions aren’t available everywhere we’d like them to be – they offer a solid, well-known service with a good reputation.
Definitely an option to consider when betting on the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
