Unibet Racing Review
Right now we are taking a look at Unibet Australia, an internationally-owned betting firm once known as Betchoice. Unibet has some really great offers, and should definitely be kept in mind when the time for spring racing offers rolls around.
We are having a closer look at several betting websites in preparation for the Melbourne Cup Carnival, which will be held on the first Tuesday in November.
Have a bit of a browse to see which site to use to satisfy all your Melbourne Cup Carnival betting needs. Check out our comprehensive Bookie Reviews page to see our other 5 preferred Melbourne Cup Carnival bookmakers.

Unibet Racing History and Gambling Licence
Unibet, the parent company of Unibet Australia, was founded in 1997. Its headquarters are in Malta, but the Australian end of the business is licensed in the Northern Territory Government. Unibet’s success has allowed it to take over a variety of other bookmakers, including Australian bookmakers Betchoice.
Betchoice was founded by Colin Tidy and Mark Morissey in 2001. It was licensed in the Northern Territory in 2006. Their offices can be found in Baulkham Hills in New South Wales and their call centre is in Darwin.
Their website is available in English, and they accept payment via PayPal, BPay, Poli, MasterCard, and VISA.
Horse Racing Products
Unibet Racing offers Best Tote, Middle Tote, Top Fluc, Fixed Win, and Fixed Place on horse racing.
The website also offers Quinella, Exacta, Trifecta, and Quadrella options for most races. They offer betting on races across Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore.
Unibet Top Lay gives you Top Lay odds on selected races each week. Check the Top Lay page at 9am the morning on the selected race to find out the top prices.
Protest Payout means that if your horse finishes 1st past the post, but is later relegated to a loser – Unibet will still pay you out as a winner. This product applies to Australian and International Gallops and Harness on Fixed Odds Win Bets only. Payout is capped at $10,000.
Owners Payout – This one is a cracker. If you register your horse (or greyhound) with Unibet, if you place a winning bet on your runner they will give you 15% on your winnings, up to $3000. All you need to do is call them up and provide your registration details.
Dead Heat Payout Unibet will pay out in full on dead heats every race, every day, across thoroughbreds, harness, and greyhounds. Applies only to fixed odds win bets.
All of these offers have their own terms and conditions attached, and we recommend that you study them carefully before committing to a bet.

Unibet Racing Joining Bonus Bet & Promotions
The Unibet Bonus for joining is a $80 400% matched first deposit offer (you deposit $20 and get $80 in bonuses). While not quite as generous as some other offers we’ve seen, the Unibet Bonus is still a nice little extra to encourage punters to sign up with them instead of another site.
What makes it a bit more special is that this bonus is actual funds, not bonus bets, which makes it almost unique among online bookmaker joining offers.
You do need to wager four times the bonus within 30 days to unlock the funds, however. The Unibet website also has a series of interesting promotions, and is almost definitely going to be packed with interesting spring racing offers.
Unibet Website and Betting Slip
The Unibet Racing website has a somewhat unique format. Instead of the traditional landing page with odds and sports, the Unibet website opens onto a landing page with links to the promotions page, the site’s features, and bonus offers. If you select ‘racing’ it will take you to the Racing Page, where the more traditional vertical column format reigns once more. Races are on the left, with odds on the right and middle.
Aesthetically, the website is not going to appeal to everyone. The decision to make everything on the site green, white, black, or vomit yellow can be called questionable, but the site is quickloading and responsive, so the aesthetics can be ignored for a time.
The betting slip pops out into the right-most column, which is otherwise empty. It’s a fairly standard betting slip, with options to place single, multi, or exotic bets, and a nice option to add a $1, $5, $20, $50, or $100 stake to all single bets which we haven’t seen elsewhere. It can’t be minimized and the brilliant yellow of the bet markers is a little jarring and could get annoying after a while, but once again Unibet’s website’s functionality makes up for what it lacks in looks.
The site has a blog, which is frequently updated and focuses on sports news and betting tips. The white and green aesthetic was frankly quite soothing after the rest of the site.
Unibet Racing also offers mobile apps for gambling on the go. The apps were pretty smooth and easy to handle, and really beginner-friendly.
The support number is at the top of the website’s page, along with links to the Help Centre. The Help Centre is one of the best, most newbie-friendly ones we’ve seen yet. There is even a section called “About Racing” which explains the entire betting process in a pretty much idiotproof manner, sure to be helpful to anyone new to the betting scene.
The Getting Started section of the website contains information on Safety and Security, Connection Loss, using the site on mobile, and a brief troubleshooting article which will definitely come in handy if issues arise, and there is a separate My Account section that has information on depositing and withdrawing money, as well as a host of other necessities. The Help section is seriously one of the most impressive efforts we’ve seen yet.
There is no option to contact Support via Live Chat, which is a small disappointment, but with a Help section this well-populated Live Chat may not be necessary. And if you really need to speak to a human, there’s always the Help telephone number at the top of the page which, probably not coincidentally, is the same number called for placing bets.
In the end, we are forced to conclude that anyone who allows the Unibet Racing website’s rather garish colours to put them off, may be a fool. The website is quick and responsive, the Help section is brilliant, and the entire operation is smooth and streamlined.
In addition, Unibet Australia is backed by Unibet, which operates in more than 100 countries, with more than 14 million customers. If that’s not a reputation to inspire confidence, what is? Definitely one of the better options to consider when looking to place some bets on the Melbourne Cup Carnival
