2016 Longines Mile Day at Flemington

Longines Mile DayLongines Mile Day features the inaugural Longines Mile on Saturday 29th October 2016 at Flemington racecourse in Melbourne.

Held on the first day of the four-day Melbourne Cup Carnival, the 2016 Longines Mile is a 1600 metre race offering $1,000,000 in prizemoney.

The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) made programming changes to the Melbourne Cup Carnival this year.

Two feature races were altered, the former Emirates Stakes was moved to Victoria Derby Day and renamed the Longines Mile.

With that change, the former Mackinnon Stakes was moved to the final day of the carnival, Emirates Stakes Day. and renamed the Emirates Stakes.

Quality group races abound on Longines Mile Day, including the 2016 Victoria Derby for three-year-olds.

The 2016 Longines Mile is one of nine group races on Victoria Derby Day featuring four Group 1 races, three Group 2 races and three Group 3 races.

Turn Me Loose wins feature mile

New Zealand trained galloper Turn Me Loose won the 2015 Longines Mile (ran as the Emirates Stakes), from Politeness and Rock Sturdy.

Kerrin McEvoy rode the Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman sprinter who scored by 0.2L in a time of 1:36.26 for the 1600 metre trip.
