Emirates Stakes Day is the final day of the 2016 Melbourne Cup Carnival and takes place on Saturday 5th November 2016 at Flemington racecourse in Melbourne.
Two Group 1 races take place on Emirate Stakes Day, the $2,000,000 Emirates Stakes (2000m) and $1,000,000 Darley Classic (1200m).
In 2016 the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) announced major programming changes for the Mackinnon Stakes and Emirates Stakes.
Firstly, the Mackinnon Stakes was renamed the Emirates Stakes and moved to the final day, Emirates Stakes Day.
Secondly, the former Emirates Stakes was renamed the Longines Mile and moved to Victoria Derby Day.
The change in programming means the 2016 Emirates Stakes will be run over 2000 metres at weight-for-age.

Gailo Chop wins Emirates Stakes
France based galloper Gailo Chop won the most recent edition of the Emirate Stakes last November, when run as the Mackinnon Stakes.
Trained by Antoine de Watrigant and ridden by Ben Melham, Gailo Chop defeated Rising Romance and Contributer in a time of 2:03.56.
The move to the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival makes this year’s Emirates Stakes the ideal follow-up for horses contesting the Group 1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.
