2016 Crown Oaks Day at Flemington

crown oaks dayCrown Oaks Day features the country’s premier fillies contesting the 2016 Crown Oaks on Thursday 3rd November 2016 at Flemington racecourse in Melbourne.

The $1,000,000 Group 1 Crown Oaks is the feature staying race for three-year-old fillies during the 2016 Melbourne Cup Carnival.

It is raced over a distance of 2500 metres under set weight conditions.

The Crown Oaks is the female equivalent of the Victoria Derby for three-year-old colts & geldings, which is run on Victoria Derby Day.

Crown Oaks Day features two more group races, the $200,000 Group 3 Gucci Stakes (1100m) and $200,000 Group 3 Chatham Stakes (1400m).

Nine races will take place on 2016 Crown Oaks day at Flemington.

Jameka snares 2015 Crown Oaks for Ciaron Maher

Trainer Ciaron Maher won the Crown Oaks for the second year in a row when Jameka claimed the 2015 Crown Oaks from Honesta and Ambience.

Maher scored the previous year with smart galloper Set Square and is making a name for himself as a mast trainer of young fillies.

Damien Oliver rode Jameka to a comfortable Crown Oaks victory, winning by 2.25 lengths in a time of 2:43.34.
